This week we had the privilege to interview the Foodgeekz sisters about their best advice to cook more wholesome foods at home and what their most loved recipe creation is.
When and how did your interest for health and healthy recipe creations start?
Our interest in health and food has been with us since childhood. Knowledge about health, our bodies, minds, and consciousness has been a genuine interest of ours for the past 10 years. We have actively worked with it in various ways for several years, and it's a passion that we both share
What is the definition of healthy eating for you?
For us, healthy eating means eating without restrictions, listening to our bodies, as we all have such individual needs that we must attend to. Your body speaks to you. Eating nutritiously while also maintaining balance is the key.
What is your most loved recipe creation? and why do you think that´s so?
One of our most beloved recipes is our point cabbage with parmesan cream. Partly because it looks incredibly delicious, but also because it's so simple and tasty to serve with many different kind of dishes. This is something we often think about within creating our recipes - they should be versatile and suitable for many occasions.
What is your go to recipe, when in lack of time/ energy but still want to eat a whole food based meal?
Our best tip is to make a really tasty bowl. It's incredibly quick. Start with a good carbohydrate source like rice, gluten-free pasta, or root vegetables. Fill it up with vegetables that you have at home or crave. Then add optional protein. It's so incredibly easy to make a great bowl. We have plenty of recipes for great bowls, especially in our social media channels but also in our cookbook, "Bowlsbibeln”.
What foods do you always have in your kitchen?
We always have a good basic pantry with rice, pasta, oats, cocoa, spices, and lentils. Always good coffee. Good oils like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and ghee. A variety of vegetables. Lots of frozen vegetables and good meat. This will get you incredibly far in a whole food cooking.
For someone wanting to change their habits and mindset towards food and nutrition and feel inspired to do so, where would you recommend them to start?
Our best tip is to start small. Add one or two new habits into your daily routine. Start with once a week and keep it up for a few weeks before adding the next one. We humans tend to want to start everything at once. This usually isn't sustainable, and we get tired and quit. It's about building habits that last long-term. So start small. For example, if you want to eat more vegetables, start by adding more vegetables to one or two meals a week, etc.
What is Foodgeekzs top 3 feel good health habits ?
Our top 3 feel-good health habits are to meditate at least 3-4 times a week, even just 10 minutes at a time. Drink plenty of water. Regularly take screen-free breaks and spend time outdoors in nature. Simple things that make a big difference to our well-being.
